"A Place to Sit: Waiting on the
Dock", taken with a Canon 5D camera, Circa 2007:
Digital painting, drawing and other
manipulative methodologies.
When I
knew I'd be permanently moving to Lake
Gaston, I asked a cabinetmaker friend of
mine to build me 4 custom Adirondack
chairs out of the hardest and
most indestructible hardwood he could find.
We custom-fit the chairs and stools,
enlarging the width of the arms and
modifying the angle of the backrests,
which were extra high. Eventually, my
friend selected "ipe" for an incredibly
dense wood stock. When finished, each of
the chairs weighed more than 75
pounds. They will sink if they fall off
the dock, but they didn't budge an inch
during the last passing hurricane.
This
particular chair was sunbathing when I
took its picture against the vivid fall
colors of a gumball tree. The chair
didn't seem to mind,
"A Place
to Sit: Waiting on the Dock" became the
November, 2008 cover for
Roanoke Rapids' Daily Herald, The
Lake Magazine.
